A New World

Three months later and similar to my last post a lot has changed.
In October, I was writing my post as I was getting prepared to begin a new job in a department that I had very little understanding of, visual effects.
Now, I am much more knowledgeable and greatly enjoying what I do every day. I have made a lot of connections within my team as well as getting to work closely with several other department heads.
Some snippets of what I have been lucky enough to do: update our weekly and monthly calendar, making sure my team members know which VFX shots will be filmed that day so that we are prepared for the set that day; create a lens grid with my coworker, ensuring we can perfectly recreate the camera lenses in post; work with a 3D scanner and scan all of the sets so that they may be recreated in post if need be; work on set doing ball-passes, HDRI's, and rat passes.
While I was of course very nervous to begin working, I believe that I have proven myself an asset to my team and hopefully have made, and will continue to make, strong connections that will carry throughout my career.
Several of my team members were even generous enough to watch some of my latest directed work, and offer to read the script that I am currently working on over the holiday break in order to provide feedback.
Unfortunately, after Thanksgiving there was a time where I was exposed to Covid-19 and had to quarantine for 14 days at home, followed by going to work for 1 day and then testing positive myself, which resulted in isolating for an additional ten days. Thankfully I was symptom-free and am now back at work. I did as much as I could from home, but was very grateful to be back in the office and on set, once it was safe for me to return.
As I continue working in a professional capacity, I am also working on personal projects.
I am posting more on my filmmaking social media accounts, including starting a Tik-Tok specifically for filmmaking, @tcolbertrexfilm, so that I may make my name more publicly known as well as help anyone who is interested in the film industry but is unsure of how to begin.
I am currently doing rewrites on my script, New Tables, applying to grants, and planning a fundraiser so that we may be able to film in June of this year.
I am saving as much money as possible so that my goal of moving to LA in September will be realized.
I am extremely lucky to be able to work during Covid times, and am keeping my fingers crossed that I am able to continue to work throughout the year.
Happy holidays and Happy New Year!
Thank you for reading and following along with my adventures and goals!
