Out of Excuses.

Well, it has been embarrassingly long since I've written my "monthly" blog about how my career is going.
So let's start with an update.
I graduated 173 days ago (there's a website to keep track of this, I don't have that much time on my hands to count this) and it took two months for me to find a job. Since then I've started working two jobs, neither of which pertain to anything near video or film. But I am working as much as I can so that I can save up money to pay my student loans and maybe start saving to move out of Pennsylvania.
In July I got the opportunity to work on my first set post-graduating and it was great! I worked as a production assistant and script supervisor for the first time and I got to see recent Point Park grads actually making films and loving it. It came at the perfect time because I was feeling down about not already having a job doing what I went to school for and it reignited my passion for filmmaking.
After that, I sat down and spent more time revising "It Goes Like This" and now I am officially halfway through my second draft of a feature film!!!
In September, I got a message from a Point Park alum asking me to cover her for a day on the television series, Manhunt: Lone Wolf as an Art Department P.A. It was an incredible experience, seeing a real set and studio, and real Pittsburgh filmmakers working in the industry.
Now for some harsh honesty.
Unfortunately, since these two opportunities, I have not been able to get on another set and have found myself working so often that I haven't had or taken the time to apply to other jobs that fit in the field of filmmaking.
I am trying my best to keep my head up and remain positive about my future, as I promised myself and all of you that I would do in a previous blog post, but I won't lie - it's been extremely difficult. My friends have all been talented and lucky enough to find jobs in their fields and as I love cheering them on, I can't help but question: why not me?
And the first answer to that is, of course, because I have not taken time to send my resume out or create any content that I could send anywhere to get my name out into the world.
Today, before I head off to work, I'm taking time to update my website, my resume, and send off as many as I can to video production, editing, and writing jobs as I can.
Just like before I worked on An Honest Lie, I find myself now falling into a pit of questioning if I have what it takes and excuses as to why I haven't applied to any more jobs or taken time to write anything.
But since my camp season is over, I'm hoping now that instead of running up there when I have a day off (or even five hours), I can now dedicate more time to what I should be focusing on - applying myself and my degree.
So here's to sending my resume out as many places as I can and finding a writing schedule that works for my chaotic work schedule now.
